Whitetail Deer

The images below made me feel like a real "wildlife photographer" vs. just taking some good pictures.

Neva, Lucy and I were driving around the east loop of the Trempealau National Wildlife Refuge when I noticed a piece of tan in the woods about 30 yards off the road to the south. I grabbed my binoculars and found a doe and her fawn. We watch them for about 5 minutes as the walked through the woods. Towards the east.

It dawned on me they might be walking straight towards the "Listening Point" loop where we often stop in the shade of some big pines to survey the big field below. After stopping there, I got out my camera and tripod and positioned myself in a patch of shade where I could watch the woods leading the field.

Sure enough, about 10 minutes later I noticed the doe and then the fawn. Here are the images from that encounter.

The doe and her fawn. And yes, they know I am there!

As they worked their way across the field, the fawn got a little too far away from Mom and she gave a quick alarm snort and the fawn came running with its tail in alarm mode. They casually walked through the field and back into the woods on the far NE corner.

Sometimes you just have to take advantage of the opportunity. Both images shot through the window at my desk!
