Warbling Vireo

Warbling Vireo-7058.jpg
Warbling Vireos are a small bird of the forest canopy. Often heard, seldom seen. They are really tough to get a photo of because they are constantly moving around high in the trees. The equipment used on this day, made the day. The images below were taken at the educational  kiosk across form the Headquarter building in the Trempeulau National Wildlife Refuge.

It started with a bird call high in the canopy that I identified with BirdNet on my cell phone.

BirdNet is available as a free app for both Android and iPhones. The app correctly identified the bird as a Warbling Vireo which was very exciting as this is a new Life List bird for me!  After searching the tree canopy I found them high in the trees.

I was using my Nikon D500 with the 200-500 mm telephoto on a tripod with a gimbal mount. The good thing about this rig is that I can get the camera above my head by extending the post mount.

BUT.....it took me nearly 2 hours to get these images! Darn little critters didn't want to cooperate!

The Warbling Vireo winters in Central and northern South America.
